5 Best Photoshoot Locations on the Sunshine Coast for Stunning Portraits
The Sunshine Coast is one of Queensland’s most beautiful regions for portrait photography. With waterfalls, forests, mountain views, dramatic coastline, and endless beaches, there are so many incredible places to create images that feel natural, elevated, and full of emotion.
Choosing the right location can completely shape the mood of your session. Some women are drawn to soft beach light and open skies, while others love rainforest energy, rock pools, or sweeping scenic lookouts. That’s why location is always an important part of planning your shoot.
At AnnetteTaylor Photography, I offer female-focused portrait experiences designed to feel comfortable, empowering, and beautifully personal. If you’re considering booking a session and wondering where to shoot, these are five of my favourite Sunshine Coast locations for stunning portraits.
1. Buderim Forest Waterfall
Buderim Forest Waterfall is one of the most enchanting portrait locations on the Sunshine Coast. Tucked away in lush rainforest surrounds, it offers a completely different atmosphere from the beach locations many people automatically think of. The moment you enter, the air feels cooler, the light softens through the trees, and everything becomes calm and grounding. It’s a beautiful option for women wanting portraits that feel natural, feminine, earthy, and a little wild.
There are two main ways to access the falls.
The Boardwalk Entrance: This is the scenic route and often my preferred option for a full experience. The boardwalk path takes you gradually into the forest, winding through beautiful greenery and crossing smaller streams and waterfalls along the way. This route is lovely because it creates opportunities for portraits before we even reach the main waterfall. Timber pathways, tree canopies, moving water, and filtered light all photograph beautifully.
The Steeper Shortcut Entrance
There is also a quicker path that takes you down more directly to the falls. It is steeper and can become slippery, particularly after rain, so care is needed. However, it’s ideal if you’d prefer to reach the waterfall faster.
Why It Photographs So Beautifully
Once at the base area, there are so many natural features to work with:
- Large textured rocks
- Flowing water in the background
- A bridge overhead for elevated compositions
- Layers of rainforest foliage
- Beautiful diffused light
- Rich green tones all year round
The water is not always bright blue, but it is raw, natural, and full of character -which often photographs even better than something overly polished.
Things to Consider
Shoes with grip are ideal for walking in and around the area, and I always prioritise safety when working near rocks or water.
Best time to visit: Weekdays outside public holidays and school holidays for fewer crowds.
Perfect for: Earthy portraits, movement, natural beauty, grounded feminine energy.
Buderim Waterfall
2. Wild Horse Mountain
Wild Horse Mountain is one of the most underrated portrait locations in the region because it offers two completely different looks in one area: forest textures below and panoramic views above. It’s a fantastic choice for women who want portraits that feel adventurous, scenic, and expansive.
The Lower Trail Area
Although part of the surrounding pine forest has recently been cleared, there are still hidden walking and bike trails with beautiful natural backdrops.
You’ll find:
- Lush ferns
- Scattered pine trees
- Earthy pathways
- Pockets of golden light at sunset
- A soft woodland atmosphere
This section is ideal for portraits with movement, walking shots, seated moments, and natural candid imagery.
The Summit Lookout
If you’re happy for a walk of around 20 minutes up the pathway, the summit is absolutely worth it.
At the top, you’re rewarded with:
- Sweeping mountain views
- Valley outlooks
- Open skies
- A sense of space and freedom
- A small one-storey lookout shelter
- Incredible 360-degree scenery
This creates portraits that feel strong, open, and full of presence.
Why Clients Love It
Wild Horse Mountain gives a sense of journey. Starting in the forest and ending at the summit can feel symbolic and empowering—especially for women celebrating a new season of life.
Best time to visit: Sunset for warm tones and dramatic sky colour.
Perfect for: Adventurous sessions, scenic portraits, golden hour imagery, women wanting something unique.

3. Beachmere -Louise Drive
Beachmere is a quieter hidden gem that offers a peaceful and spacious coastal feel. If crowded beaches are not your thing, this location can be a beautiful alternative.
At the top of Louise Drive park up and head down the small path and you’ll find a long, open beach with mangroves scattered throughout the landscape.
These natural elements add visual interest while still keeping the scene minimal and elegant.
What Makes It Special
This location feels calm and expansive. There is room to move, breathe, and create images that feel relaxed rather than rushed.

Signature Feature: The Rock Formations
To the left are magnificent rock formations that make this location so special.
